Are you interested in studying at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), but aren’t quite sure which degree programme is right for you? We at the Student Advisory Service are here to help you find your way, choose a degree programme and answer any questions you may have about the application process. We can also provide you with an overview of all majors and minors.

You can send us a message, book a free consultation or drop by during our opening hours without an appointment. A booked consultation lasts 45 minutes and takes place online or on-site at ZHdK.

What can I study at ZHdK?

At ZHdK, you can study in the following areas:

    • Art Education
    • Cultural Critique
    • Dance
    • Design
    • Film
    • Fine Arts
    • Music
    • Theatre
    • Transdisciplinary Studies

The Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes at ZHdK are structured according to the Major-Minor study model: with your Major, you choose your main area of study. You can then deepen your knowledge in this area or broaden it across disciplines by choosing one or two Minors. Do you have any questions about choosing a Minor? You can ask our advisers any questions you may have during a consultation.

How do I apply to ZHdK?

You apply for the Major, which forms the focus of your studies. The requirements and procedure vary depending on the programme.

The admissions process may include, for example:

    • an application dossier
    • portfolio
    • programme-specific tasks
    • an aptitude test
    • an admissions interview

You can find the binding requirements and deadlines on the page for the relevant degree programme under ‘Application and Admissions Process’.

If you have any questions about the process or how to prepare, the Student Advice Team will be happy to help.

How can the Student Advice Team help me?

The Student Advice Team is your first point of contact for general questions about studying and applying to ZHdK.

We can help you with questions regarding:

    • Choosing a course and study programmes
    • suitable fields of study
    • Major and Minor
    • Applications and the admissions process
    • Preparing your application
    • other advisory and contact points at ZHdK

You don’t need to know exactly what you want to study just yet. Together, we’ll look at your interests, experiences and options.

Can I talk to students about their experiences?

    Peer-to-peer exchange

During a peer-to-peer experience exchange, you’ll meet students who’ll share their personal insights and experiences of their major with you. At this meeting, you can ask questions on an equal footing and gain valuable insights into the degree programme – directly from those who are currently studying it themselves. Following a counselling session with us, we’ll put you in touch with a student for the experience exchange.

If you’re interested in one of the following degree programmes, you can contact the Student Advice Team to request an experience-sharing session with current students:

    • BA Design: Cast / Audiovisual Media, Trends & Identity, and Visual Communication
    • BA Art Education
    • MA and BA Music: Specialization in Composition / Theory / Sound Design / Sound Engineering
