The ZHdK’s preparatory courses specifically prepares students for a degree in art and design. The creative and artistic training provides a broad and solid foundation of knowledge, helps students identify their personal strengths and lays the groundwork for applications to art colleges in Switzerland and abroad.

Are you interested in visual design, film, or art education? Fine art, fashion, or industrial design? Our Preparatory Courses in Art and Design focus on your strengths and goals. Our team comprises lecturers from a range of creative and artistic disciplines. They will guide you through practice-oriented projects, support you with their expert knowledge, and answer your questions. During the so called 'Vorkurs', you will develop your personal portfolio, tailored to your studies and application goals. The programme is also recognised as a creative placement.

The ZHdK's Preparatory Courses in Art and Design are available in three formats. The full-time programme provides intensive preparation for a degree in art and design, lasting one year (two semesters). Those who have already completed prior qualifications in art and design, or who hold an art and design Matura, can complete the shortened full-time programme in one semester.
The part-time programme is designed for individuals who wish to prepare for a degree in art and design alongside work, school or family commitments. Classes take place on Fridays and Saturdays for one and a half years.
