In addition to the annual minor selection in spring for minors starting in the autumn semester, where almost all minors offered at ZHdK are available, there is a second minor selection in the autumn with a limited and significantly smaller range of options. In this selection, various target groups can choose from a limited range of minors that start in the spring semester or allow for enrollment every semester.

Target Groups for Minors Starting in the Spring Semester

Participation in the autumn minor selection is of interest to three different target groups. It is important to note that it is only meaningful for students if they have not yet started a minor or if they can ensure that they meet the time requirements for studying two minors concurrently.

    • Master’s students in Music who begin their major in spring
    • Students in the Department of Cultural Analysis (DKV) with “basic” minors that follow the “basic-advanced” principle
    • Students who do not yet have a minor or who wish to and are able to study two minors concurrently

    Conditions

A spring start can be beneficial if students are interested in the offered minors and the necessary conditions are met. Before choosing a minor with a spring start, the following aspects should be checked:

Option for Students without a Started Minor
Students who have not yet started a minor can begin one in the spring semester. However, they should consider that this choice might affect their options in the next major minor selection in May, as a second minor starting in the autumn semester must be time-compatible.

Option for Students with a Started Minor
Students who have already started a minor should check whether their schedule, alongside their major and current minor, allows for an additional minor in the spring semester. It is important to not exceed the intended 30 credits per semester and to ensure that the schedules of the two minors are compatible.

Studying two parallel minors in one semester is not the norm and requires considerable coordination and planning on the part of the students. According to the Regulatory Framework, it is important to note that students can enroll for a maximum of 36 credits per semester. It is usually easier if, as is usually intended, the first minor is completed before selecting a new minor during the next minor selection in May, with the full range of minors available, which will then begin in the upcoming autumn semester.
