Educational objectives and professional fields

Educational objectives

With a degree in Curatorial Studies, graduates will be able to plan and realize exhibitions, events and mediation programmes, positioning themselves successfully in a dynamic environment. This includes the ability to move competently in transdisciplinary as well as politically charged social contexts. The program imparts scholarly competence (the ability to interpret phenomena and developments in relation to relevant academic research), a competence as an author/writer (with an independent and recognizable profile) and competences in production (the ability to realize projects in practice), communicative skills (the successful communication of these projects, linguistically and visually) as well as the social competences (the ability to think independently, to communicate and to work in a team), as shaping one’s own ethics and commitments.

Degree title

Master of Arts ZHdK in Cultural Critique with a Major in Curatorial Studies

Potential areas of employment

The field of curating has been expanding rapidly for decades, as have the exhibiting institutions. The Master’s in “Curatorial Studies” enables graduates to work as curators in various fields. They can also find employment as mediators and art educators or in related professions within established institutional structures and in project development, e.g. in cultural studies or on the independent cultural scene. The programme provides the ideal conditions for graduates to get off to a successful start in their careers.
