Nicole Vögele is a filmmaker and investigative journalist based in Zurich and Berlin. She has been working regularly as a journalist for over twenty years, focusing in recent years on investigative projects within collective research teams. She has reported extensively from the EU’s external borders and, in 2021, won the German Human Rights Film Award together with her team.
As a filmmaker, Nicole Vögele approaches the world through poetic essay documentaries. Her films have been screened and awarded at various international festivals. Closing Time won the Silver Leopard at Locarno in 2018; The Landscape and the Fury received the Grand Prix at Visions du Réel 2024 as well as the Doc Alliance Award. The film was also nominated for both the European and the Swiss Film Awards.
Since 2021, Nicole Vögele has been a Professor of Moving Image at the HfBK Dresden.
