Design
The Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes offered by the Department of Design cover a broad range of forward-looking topics spread across seven subject areas: Cast/Audiovisual Media, Game Design, Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Knowledge Visualization, Trends & Identity and Visual Communication.
Bachelor
Students undertaking a Bachelor’s degree in Design opt for one of seven majors as part of their six-semester full-time programme. The degree programme website offers information spanning the various majors available, while specific supplementary details can be found on the sub-pages for each one.
Master
Students undertaking a Master of Arts degree in Design decide on one of six majors as part of their four-semester full-time programme. Basic information about the degree programme is available on the respective programme’s website, and additional specific information can be found under the links of the majors.
Major-Minor Programme Model
At ZHdK, students choose a Major. In addition to this core subject, they can choose one or two Minors to deepen or expand their major skills and knowledge across various disciplines. This wide choice of courses is unique in Europe and enables students to develop and sharpen their individual profile.

Preparatory training
The design-oriented Foundation Course offers guidance for students and prepares them for higher education in art and design. Students have the option of completing the course on a full- or part-time basis The PreCollege of Art and Design, on the other hand, runs workshops for young people of secondary school age as part of the one-week ZHdK summer workshop and the ZHdK Saturday workshops held throughout the school year.
