Supervision

Supervision involves reflecting on individual concerns arising from the professional practice of therapists, educators and practitioners in other fields – incorporating artistic perspectives and taking into account the respective institutional contexts. Drawing on specific work situations (and with professional supervisory guidance), the process examines processes, roles and relational dynamics, as well as ethical issues, one’s own professional identity and self-care in the workplace. This reflection opens up new perspectives and supports a clear, effective and sustainable approach to professional practice.

Target audience
This programme is aimed at therapists, educators and professionals from other fields who wish to engage in deeper reflection on their work with their clients.

Content
The course addresses participants’ concerns regarding their professional practice. This encompasses the following areas:

  • Reflection on work, therapy or teaching processes from the perspectives of goal-setting, attitude, symbol formation, the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and systemic aspects
  • Examination and analysis of one’s role within the institution in relation to interdisciplinary networking, documentation, information processes, terms of employment and status.
  • Discussion of ethical issues concerning confidentiality – the need for communication – the handling of closeness and distance, and legal issues relating to rights and obligations within the institution, dealings with funding bodies and professional recognition
  • Examination of personal professional identity in terms of development opportunities, but also with regard to processes of self-discovery, resistance, fears and doubts
  • A key focus is often on self-care in the profession, and on recognising resources, temptations and challenges
