    The “CAS Composition for Film, Theatre, and Media” builds on an individual assessment. The specific target skills are based on the individual skills of the students upon admission to the course. 

    Skills

    • CAS Composition FTM (Basic)

      • Professional skills 

        • Basic and specialist knowledge from the areas of music and media/media technology
        • Skills in media technology (notation, producing, sound design and recording technology) and knowledge of music production (studio practice)
        • Skills in the (written) craft of composing, arranging, orchestrating and instrumenting in different styles – “live” (studio session), digital (samples) or “hybrid” (mixed production)
        • Ability to recognize and reproduce different styles using transcription and analysis (old music, classical music, new music, ethnic music, jazz and pop, etc.)
        • Comprehensive knowledge of organizations and structures of music production for media
      • Methodological skills

        • Knowledge of efficient working techniques in the area of music production (studio session); knowledge of specific working methods, procedures, technologies
        • Command of work-specific problem-solving methods in the area of music production
        • Ability to assess your own work and make the results available to others (in the form of sketches, temp tracks, mock-ups, end mixes, etc.) 
      • Social skills

        • Ability to be critical (i.e., step back from your work/creation and view it objectively) 
        • Ability to manage conflict, ability to work in a team on project work 
      • Personal skills

        • Own composition (or “artistic”) style
        • Independence: Ability to set priorities, make decisions, and take on responsibility
        • Resilience, perseverance, reliability
        • Ability to learn/develop: learn from experiences and be ready to acquire creative new knowledge
    • CAS Composition FTM (Intermediate)

      • Professional skills

        • Skills in media technology (notation, producing, sound design and recording technology) and knowledge of music production (studio practice) or the production of sound tracks, in particular also pre- and post-production in the area of film/media (film sound, sound design, drubbing, etc.).
        • Ability to recognize dramaturgical connections
        • Good general educational background (historical, cultural, political, societal, philosophical/ethical) which can be implemented in relation to music, film, theatre and media (contextual knowledge)
        • Basic knowledge in the areas of music, film, theatre and/or media within the scope of the individual profile
        • Skills as a performer: instrumental and/or vocal, as a conductor or an improviser (on the computer)
        • Skills and knowledge in the area of composition for media (film, video, television, radio and other media formats) 
      • Methodological skills

        • Ability to work together with other specialists from the areas of music and media (on an interdisciplinary basis)
        • Ability to assess your own work and make the results available to others (in the form of sketches, temp tracks, mock-ups, end mixes, etc.) 
      • Social skills

        • Ability to be critical (i.e., step back from your work/creation and view it objectively) 
        • Ability to manage conflict, ability to work in a team on project work.
        • Ability to maintain professional relationships (networking talent)
      • Personal skills

        • Own composition (or “artistic”) style with a certain readiness to compromise in interdisciplinary project work in particular
        • Flexibility: ability to adjust to changes and different working situations and actively shape them
        • Resilience, perseverance, reliability: the ability to withstand work-specific physical and mental stress; get to know your personal options and limits
        • Communicative skills (sales talent within the scope of the personal profile)
        • Independence: Ability to set priorities, make decisions, and take on responsibility
        • Flexibility: ability to adjust to changes and different working situations and actively shape them 
        • Ability to learn/develop: learn from experiences and be ready and able to acquire creative new knowledge
        • Willingness and ability to express yourself and have a public presence: Dossier as a personal web page
    • CAS Composition FTM (Advanced)

      • Professional skills

        • Skills in media technology (notation, producing, sound design and recording technology) and knowledge of music production (studio practice) and the production of sound tracks, in particular also pre- and post-production in the area of film/media (film sound, sound design, drubbing, etc.)
        • Ability to recognize dramaturgical connections

    Qualification

    The programme is completed with a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS). The certificate confirms that the holder participated in the CAS, and describes the subjects and courses attended. The certificate describes the work performed (classroom instruction and self-study) and confirms successful participation in the course. No grade is given.

    The degree includes a written reflection on the individual learning objectives formulated at the beginning of the course of study and the learning process that has taken place. This is submitted to the core subject lecturer and the administration office at the end of the academic year.
