Conditions of admission

Admission to the MAS Design Direction thesis requires the successful completion of three CAS programmes (45 ECTS credits), at least two of which must be in the field of Design Direction at ZHdK.

Admission to the MAS final module requires a state-recognised degree from a university of applied sciences, university or technical college and at least five years of professional experience. Prospective students without an adequate degree can be admitted by providing detailed proof of their education and continuing education as well as professional experience if they pass the equivalence test. The equivalence check is carried out by the head of the MAS Design Direction programme.

The admission dossier or the admission procedure for the MAS thesis consists of three parts:

  • Outline

    Outline

    Outline, max. 2 A4 pages in length. It must detail:

    • Covering letter detailing why you want to take the MAS degree and
    • how the degree programmes that you attended in the past relate to your educational objective
    • Suggested topic for the MAS thesis
    • Abstract with focus, concept and content of the planned MAS thesis

  • Folder of work

    To prove your professional experience, please submit a dossier with work samples from the fields of typography, editorial design, graphic design, type design, brand design, UI/UX design and/or creative coding (approx. 5 projects, 3 to 5 pages each, PDF). This should also include (max. 2) works from the CAS programmes attended so far.

  • Interview

    Interview with the Head of Programme in which the objective and the project of the MAS thesis is explained and discussed.
