Profile of the MA Fine Arts at ZHdK

Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) is one of the largest universities of the arts in Europe, with around 2,100 students. The wide range of degree programmes and research programmes comprises fine arts, design, film, music, dance, theatre, art education, media and transdisciplinary studies.

The focus of the MA Fine Arts of ZHdK is on deepening, professionalizing and contextualizing your work. Faculty and students are a dedicated community. You receive support to develop your practical and intellectual skills in order to establish yourself in your profession. The MA Fine Arts also extends your network by bringing you into contact with interesting people in the local and global contemporary art scene.

At the center of the curriculum is the practice module . You consolidate your own artistic practice in accompanied, mentored and independent formats. You have access to well-equipped workshops for photo, video, sound and 3D printing as well as wood, metal, plaster, textiles, ceramics, graphic art, etc. Pool seminars provide enable students to delve into current artistic and theoretical topics and debates. You also explore questions of exhibiting and making work public. You are part of an international student community and experiment with forms of interaction and self-organized learning, such as within the scope of Student Study Groups.

The degree programme not only comprises individual pool seminars, critiques and Art Talks, but also study trips to international events. For example, in autumn 2019, the MA in Fine Arts students attended the 58th Venice Biennale and took part in our October School in Mexico City, which deals with art in the public area.
