This project interrogates the artists’ understanding of scientific knowledge, a) prior to collaborating with scientists, and b) how, during the collaboration, their original understanding shifts, and c) in what way this changes their artistic practice after the collaboration by examining three case studies of the artists-in-labs program. The artists-in-labs program has been bringing artists and scientists of all disciplines together in an experimental framework and space of exchange and dialogue in research institutes in Switzerland and internationally since 2003. The case studies of the artists-in-labs program thus offer a diverse pool of witnessed and documented testimonials and case studies over the years. Based on what is actually understood in the Natural Sciences by knowledge, I would like to examine what »new« knowledge is created in such collaborations.
