Die Brüste der Elefantin. Eine feministische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Verbundensein von Elefantinnen und Frauen
Gianna Rovere, Master Vertiefung Kulturpublizistik, Departement Kulturanalysen und Vermittlung
What role can a she-elephant play in thinking about patriarchal structures? The author has been observing the diverse appearances of elephants in her everyday life since the beginning of 2020. Whether in language, on the street, in the zoo, as a metaphor or in her head. From these observations, she engages both literarily and essayistically with the entanglements of being a she-elephant and being a woman in Western European society. The master's thesis contains the kaleidoscopic short story collection «Episoden von Alltagselefanten» and the essay «Wir Elefantinnen im Raum» The essay deals with women's internalized body hatred and gets to the bottom of the desire to grab and tear off one's own flesh and make oneself vanishingly small. A written attempt to release one's body from its legacy and hurtful behavior; to be something more like an elephant. Solidaric, present and taking up space.
