LabInsights
Description
LabInsights is the Immersive Arts Space's recurring open-lab format (since 2022), offering public insight into current artistic, technological, and research-based developments. The event provides a platform where students, researchers, artists, and invited guests can experience work in progress, test prototypes, and engage directly with project teams.
By creating opportunities for dialogue and experimentation, LabInsights fosters exchange between disciplines and communities while making emerging immersive media practices accessible to a broader audience. Each edition presents a selection of current projects, ranging from student works and artistic explorations to cutting-edge research initiatives in extended reality (XR), virtual environments, AI-driven experiences, and interactive media.
Exhibitions
Since its launch, LabInsights has presented a diverse range of immersive art, design, and research projects developed within the Immersive Arts Space and its partner networks. Exhibited works have included projects such as Shifting Realities, Digital Gold, The Feeling Machine, Changing Matters, XRconFIGURE, Neural Volumetric Capture, Digital Twins, and numerous student productions created in collaboration with external cultural institutions, including the Zurich Opera House.
Recent editions have showcased experimental prototypes exploring design fiction, mixed reality audio environments, artificial intelligence, virtual production, and future XR applications. The exhibitions emphasize hands-on engagement, allowing visitors to experience emerging technologies, contribute feedback, and participate in the ongoing development of innovative immersive experiences.
Team
LabInsights is organized and curated by the Immersive Arts Space and brings together an interdisciplinary network of researchers, artists, designers, technologists, and students. The event reflects the collaborative nature of the lab, where creative practice, artistic research, and technological innovation intersect.
Contributors vary from edition to edition and include project leads, research associates, visiting artists, external partners, and participants from educational programmes. Together, they shape an environment for experimentation, knowledge exchange, and the exploration of future forms of immersive experience.
