Pigments are tiny particles that by means of light reflection call forth the sensation of light in the visual perceptual system. The idea of this project was to depict colours in an abstract form in virtual space so as to be able to move around in this space.
With the ExplosionFX-Objekt tool that is part of the Cinema4D program cubes with different colours were broken up into small 3D shapes. In this way a great number of colour particles were created. During the first experiments the camera was held in a fixed position and the colour particles created from the cube explosion were set in motion. In this way the colour fragments moved around in the space. The visual effect, however, was similar to fireworks. In order to obtain the desired effect, instead of the particles the camera was set in motion. A moving camera shot through the space filled with static colour particles was the result.
In some film sequences the shot is somewhat like a flight through a colourful asteroid field. In others it is above all the crystalline effect of the particles that is most evident. The unfocused images produced by the motion-blur effect give the impression of three-dimensional paint strokes or of colours being applied on top of one another. The pictures are reminiscent of early Impressionist paintings.
