    Welcome to the Kino Toni

The Kino Toni is the on-site cinema of Zurich University of the Arts. Itโ€™s a place where the limits of the screen are being constantly challenged by formats like games, video art and interactive film. Itโ€™s a place where research meetings are held and original short films are premiered with the film-maker present. And there is also a Student film club (in German), whose members get as much of a thrill from watching timeless masterpieces as in soaking up the atmosphere of open discussion. The Kino Toni is also a place of intellectual exchange and learning for the wider public, and not just the students and staff of ZHdK.

    About the programme

On weekdays, lecturers from the subject area Film and other courses teach their students about film history, film analysis, narrative perspective, dramaturgy and much more. There is a rich offering of seminars and workshops, with titles such as โ€œTicket to Rideโ€ (in German) and โ€œFilmtalkโ€ (in German).

On Monday evening the interdisciplinary lecture series โ€œKein Kinoโ€ (in German) is held. The Departments of Design, Fine Arts, and Music present formats such as games or video art that challenge the very limits of cinema. This lecture series is aimed at students from all semesters and all departments.

Tuesday evenings are reserved for the ZHdK film club, โ€œKlub Kuleshovโ€ (in German). This evening of classic cinema, which is put together and run by the students themselves, is a chance to experience and discuss films while enjoying popcorn and soft drinks. Itโ€™s a great spot for an exchange of views, open to all students, lecturers and other staff of ZHdK and the University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).

The history of film is the focus for Wednesday and Thursday evenings. These teaching sessions, open to the whole university, are built around discussions of films in their historical context. The programme for this semester, as an example, features the lectures โ€œSwiss Film History 1โ€ (in German) and โ€œThe Christe Code โ€“ Biblical Images in Filmโ€ (in German). Another film cycle, โ€œFokus Dokโ€ (in German), is devoted to Swiss documentary films.

Friday, weekends and term breaks offer further opportunity for events dealing with the topic of film. Open format events with screenings, such as research projects, symposia, masterclasses, panel discussions and festivals are also held at this venue.

The items listed in Events are also open to the general public.
