Programme

A few years ago, as part of the establishment of a 3rd cycle specific to art universities, a postgraduate programme was set up at the Department of Music: a doctoral programme in cooperation with the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG), within which an artistic-scientific doctorate in the field of music can be completed. The prerequisites for admission are, firstly, an above-average MA degree in the field of music, secondly, experience in independent artistic work in the performative or compositional field, and thirdly, successful completion of the respective application procedure. Doctoral candidates will be supervised by one artistic and one academic supervisor from ZHdK and/or the KUG as well as two external supervisors. The programme takes place in Zurich and in Graz. The doctoral thesis consists of an artistic part (presentations) and a scholarly dissertation. Within the framework of the cooperation with the KUG, the group of doctoral students sees itself as a junior research group of the DMU; there is a regular exchange between the participants of both universities, this also in cooperation with ZHdKโ€™s Department of Performing Arts and Film for certain events.

The programme is supported by swissuniversities.
