    Content and structure

    Course content.

    In the Major in โ€œCompositionโ€, you will sharpen your own artistic approaches and practices. The focus is on experimentation, reflection and artistic research in the exploration of ideas. This includes the study of performance, installation, sound art and collaborative projects as well as experiments with intermedial performance formats. To this end, ZHdK provides you with materials and equipment, premises, studios, workshops and performance opportunities. 

    Course structure.

    The focus is on your individual development as an artist and composer and the associated self-study. This includes a differentiated approach to the performance of your own compositions and works of others, the development of interdisciplinary projects and involvement in internal and external concerts. The works created are discussed critically in colloquia and individual tuition. Current issues (from the fields of music, the arts, aesthetics, philosophy, sociology, etc.) are addressed and an understanding of various musical languages and artistic practices is promoted.

    Skills acquired in the course.

    You will develop into a self-determined artist with independent methods, techniques and practices. You will deepen your musical thinking and perception and acquire the  ability to implement your projects effectively and stage them in original ways, as well as learning how to verbalize your ideas precisely and engage in critical discussion.

    Admissions requirements.

    You have a high level of general education, good musical knowledge, good communication skills and the desire to express yourself in artistic terms. You are creative and able to articulate your artistic ideas. You are willing to devote your professional life to music and motivated to deepen your skills at a high level and establish and maintain a specialist network.
