Educational objectives.
Prepared for the real world.
The course aims to ensure that you are introduced to and understand the processes and issues that may arise during preparation, filming and post-production while working in the position of a director. The intensive practical experience you will gain throughout the degree programme will prepare you for professional work after graduation. The film industry changes rapidly and the demands placed on directors increase with this change, yet there is still demand for unconventional filmmakers with an artistic vision, which our programme is committed to fostering. You will also learn about artistic research issues at the University of Zurichโs Institute of Film Studies.
ZHdK connects teaching and research. With predoctoral and doctoral programmes, our programmes invest in up-and-coming talent. With research institutes including the Institute for the Performing Arts and Film and the Immersive Arts Space, ZHdK has become a byword for the increasing importance of innovation, digitalization and practice-based research.
Prepared for interdisciplinary work.
At ZHdK, degree programmes are shaped by hybrid collaborations in the fields of film, theatre and dance. Students are taught and encouraged to become artistic personalities who demonstrate autonomy and flexibility in complex production processes and interdisciplinary working groups.
Prepared for the future.
Our strong ties with professional networks and partnerships provide a state-of-the-art education and expose students to national and international perspectives, platforms and discourses.
