    FAQ

    • How do I choose a Major?

Find out about the specific approach and content of the individual Majors under the Degree structure menu item on the website zhdk.ch/designstudieren. Contact the Major office or visit us at the information event during the information days in mid-November if you are unsure.

    • Can I work whilst studying for my Bachelor's degree?

The Bachelor's degree is a full-time three-year course. We would discourage you from adding to your workload during the semester. However, you do have the opportunity to work during the semester breaks (mid-January until mid-February and mid-June until the beginning of September).
    • What happens after graduation?

You work as a designer in an agency, company or institution, set up your own company or continue your studies with a Master's degree.
    • Where can I apply for grants for the course?

Each canton regulates and assesses who is awarded a grant on an individual basis. The best thing to do would be to speak to the relevant office in your canton of residence and apply there.
    • What does special admission ("sur dossier") mean?

If you do not have the necessary formal academic training at upper secondary level (Baccalaureate) but can provide evidence that you are an outstanding artistic and design talent, then you can still apply for the admissions process sur dossier. Whether you are invited to the aptitude test will be determined based on your portfolio and submitted assignment.

For the Bachelor's Programme in Design it is mandatory - in case the applicant has no professional training in a field related to the subject area - to provide evidence of either a year's work experience or a completed two-semester preparatory course in art and design (propaedeutic studies). An admission sur dossier is not possible if the additional conditions described above are not met.

    • How many Majors can I apply for and how much does it cost?

You can apply for a maximum of two Majors. If you wish to do this, you must submit a full application for each Major. A separate portfolio including the assignment must also be submitted for each Major. The 100 CHF enrolment fee and 200 CHF examination fee only need to be paid once.
