    Assessment of Entry-Level Competencies

    Minor Conducting Children’s Choirs

    Certain entry-level competencies are required as a condition of participation in this minor and are assessed as described below. Information on which majors must complete the assessment can be found in the Conducting Children’s Choirs Minor description (PDF Download).

    Entry-Level Competencies

    Students will be able to: 

    • Demonstrate basic knowledge of music education and music theory
    • Read and play basic unwritten song accompaniment on the piano in several keys (chord symbols) 
    • Use their singing voice confidently, in a differentiated and trained manner 

    Entrance assessment

    Students must complete the following for the entrance assessment: 

    In the form of a report, describe your existing practical experience working with a children's choir. Please focus specifically on how this experience is relevant to your music education work. 

    Scope: One A4 page, plus a list of previous internships and practical experience related to singing with children and young people.  
    Language: German  
    Font: Arial 10 to 12 pt; line spacing 1 ½ 
    The document is uploaded to the tool when selecting the minor.

    After reviewing the report, candidates will be invited to a 15-minute interview in which they will be asked questions about their previous knowledge and its relevance to music education and will be given additional explanations. 

    Criteria for entrance assessment
    The following criteria are decisive for the assessment of entry level skills in accordance with the minor registration regulations: 

    • Quality of the report
    • Relevance to music education practice 
    • Ability to reflect and self-assessment
