CAS Choral Conducting (basic)
Fundamentals of rehearsals and conducting techniques for choral singing
Individual instruction forms the core of the program. To this end, the artistic and content-related focus areas and individual goals are discussed and defined together. Depending on individual needs, students can choose between two different levels of individual instruction to structure their continuing education. In addition, the choir studio deepens students’ skills in working with vocal ensembles. During group classes, students gain practical experience and work together to explore various aspects of choral conducting.
Furthermore, students have the opportunity to observe classes in the Choral Conducting major and gain further insights into working with choirs.
To be admitted to the CAS in Choral Conducting, applicants must be actively engaged in regular or project-based work as a choral conductor (or be planning to begin such work during the academic year).
CAS Choral Conducting (advanced)
Professionalising, diversifying and deepening
The program focuses on the individual development of conducting technique and rehearsal methodology in the context of various styles of classical choral music. In individual lessons, students deepen their understanding of artistic and technical aspects and expand their knowledge of the repertoire. In addition, practical work with Zurich choirs and the university’s vocal ensembles allows for an in-depth exploration of various forms of choral work.
Active participation in the choral conducting studio, as well as observations in classes and master classes within the Conducting major, further enrich the program. Interaction with students and faculty provides additional insights into various artistic approaches.
The “CAS Choral Conducting advanced” is a prerequisite for admission to the two degrees “DAS in Music Practice / Specialising in Choral Conducting” and “MAS in Music Practice / Specialising in Choral Conducting”.
Both CAS in Choir Conducting conclude with a written reflection on the individual learning objectives formulated at the beginning of the course and the learning process that has taken place.
