There is a two-stage process:
After a preliminary selection (application videos and portfolio), the examination board (main subject lecturers and major programme directors or their representatives) decides on a selection of candidates who will be invited to Zurich for the aptitude test.
The on-site aptitude test consists of two parts:
A. Major subject
- Performance of works from at least three contrasting musical periods/styles with a total duration of 50 minutes. One of the works must be from the Viennese Classical period (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven – for songs: Schubert)
- Candidates submit a list of the works at the beginning of the audition. The repertoire should include solo works, chamber music works (duo or more) and songs.
- Candidates are expected to bring their own chamber music partners and singers.
- The commission will listen to a selection.
On request, ZHdK will provide an accompanist for the instrumental/vocal examination (prior rehearsals are not possible). → Application form
B. Interview
Candidates will be asked to expand on their study and career objectives.
