There is a two-stage process:
After a preliminary selection (application videos and portfolio), the examination board (main subject lecturers and major programme directors or their representatives) decides on a selection of candidates who will be invited to Zurich for the aptitude test.
The examination consists of two parts:
- Artistic performance
- Performance of four to five works, including a compulsory classical sonata, a representative work from the Romantic period and a virtuoso etude (Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff or similar), with a programme duration of 50 minutes.
- Candidates submit a list of works at the beginning of the examination.
- The examination board listens to a selection.
- At least one piece must be performed from memory.
- Sight-reading of a simple piece may be required at the end.
- Interview
In an interview, candidates are asked about their motivation and their study and career goals.
Total duration: 20 minutes
