IPF invites you to join us for an interdisciplinary exploration of arts-based research methods. This two-day event will include a workshop with graphic novelist Barbara Yelin and an afternoon of conversation with Prof. Dr. Charlotte Schallié,(University of Victoria) Co-Director of the Survivor-Centred Visual Narratives (SCVN) project.
Through the workshop and conversation-style presentations, you will gain insight into the practices, approaches, and questions emerging from the SCVN project which takes up arts-based methods such as graphic novels as a means of gathering testimony. We look forward to meeting you for an interdisciplinary exchange with arts-based researchers, scientists, artists, storytellers, filmmakers, educators, curators, NGO employees, and others.

Comic Drawing Workshop with Barbara Yelin
Through this workshop, Barbara Yelin will reflect on the dynamics of collaborative memory work with contemporary witnesses and the process of visual storytelling. Alternating between reflections and creative exercises, we will collaboratively create a comic with a focus on memory work and the concept of gaps. In this kind of work, the process of drawing becomes an instrument for exploring, questioning, and making absences visible. No drawing experience necessary but the willingness to get involved.
