Since 2019 the ZHdK Fine Arts offspace at Dienerstrasse has been known by various names – Saint Luke, Al_Vista, Satellit, and Wynx Club – and has been curated by both masters and bachelor students of the DFA. The space coexists alongside Club Zukunft in one of the last remaining economically and culturally diverse areas of Zürich: Kreis 4.
The Langstrasse Quartier is historically significant, embodying the intersectionality of cultures, gender, race, and class. It stands as an emblematic symbol within the context of the city. However in recent years, the neighborhood has experienced gentrification, resulting in an erasure of accessibility and interconnectivity. This transformation has left community members feeling dispossessed or isolated, undermining the quarter’s hallmark trait of social inclusion.
“Soup Kitchen” is a series of collective evenings at “sputo”, as the offspace has been called since May, intended to highlight this unique neighborhood. Collaboratively organized by Oz Oderbolz, Loit, and Arden Surdam, “Soup Kitchen” will offer moments of public engagement through shared meals, live music, and artist performances. Free soup will be served from the art space window on Wednesday evenings from 6-9 pm, prepared by local resident and chef, Loit. Soups will consist of ingredients collectively donated, found, or gathered by neighbors in order to be collectively consumed as a performative score.
By engaging cooking and community, the series intends to emphasize the integral coupling of togetherness and food. The final outcome will connect diners in order to celebrate and support the vibrancy of everyone who lives, works, or belongs to Langstrasse.
