Fragrance Today: Science, Art and Society

    Tagung / Konferenz / Symposium

    28.04.2022, 09:00 – 18:00

    Collegium Helveticum, Schmelzbergstrasse 25, Zürich

An Interdisciplinary on-site symposium organized by Dr. Friederiki Michailidou, Junior Fellow at the Collegium Helveticum

Fragrances have been an integral part of societies for millennia. Still prevalent in our world today, they are widely embraced by consumers, irreplaceable in a wide range of consumer products, and integrated in various art forms. As a result, they are directly linked with human health, culture, environment and economic growth. The development of innovative technologies for sustainable and novel fragrance production and safety assessment, driven by environmental and safety considerations, as well as the social and artistic perception of fragrances, are shaping the current and future directions of the fragrance field.

This symposium explores the interdisciplinary dimensions of contemporary fragrances by bringing together perfumers, chemists, biotechnologist, art historians and social scientists.

    Guest speakers
Dr. Jörg Scheller (Art Historian, ZHdK)
Andreas Wilhelm (Perfumer and Founder, Wilhelm Perfume GmbH)
Prof. Claus Noppeney (Social Scientist and Consultant, Bern University of Applied Sciences)
Dr. Maud Reiter (Director of New & Renewable Ingredients, Firmenich)
Prof. Rebecca Buller (Head of Competence Center for Biocatalysis, ZHAW)
Dr. Andreas Natsch (Senior Research Fellow, Givaudan)
