Project Presentation, Research-Trajectories, Open Discussion
Immediations is a seven-year partnership project at IFCAR co-funded by the Canada Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), elven co-applicant universities in Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, and Australia, and 22 community partners including artist-run-centers, galleries, and community projects.
Immediations investigates the relation between embodied experience and media in different material, digital and urban settings along their potential for co-emergence and mutual activation. The project has three major pahses:
1. Recomposing Experience (focus Australia, 2013-2014): how do new creative practices reorganize experience and perceptions, and with what social and political ramifications?
2. The Anarchive (focus Europe, 2015-2016): what kinds of archiving and documentation practices are able to capture the innovative force of research-creation activities?
3. Event Ecologies (focus Canada, 2017-2019): what can an expanded notion of the ecological bring to the domain of research-creation and the understanding of transdisciplinary knowledge practice in general?
Since summer 2013 a slowly growing team of researchers in Zurich and Europe steadily develops the local and transversal framework of Immediations. We decided to develop concerns of immediation around the term "urban fabric." The attempt is to interlace expertise in textile and architecture, urban interaction design, and artistic research enabling us to outline, develop and concretize new practices of research and knowledge production through conceptual work aesthetic experiments. The preliminary goal is laying the ground for the second project phase The Anarchive which will primarily be staged in Europe.
We kindly invite you to share your unique thoughts and ideas and to imagine with us potential collaborations at ZHdK, in Zurich and Switzerland.
