Dada Soulève Tout: “The Abstract Cabinet and the Modern Narrative”
    A lecture by Alfred Barr

Alfred Barr relays a story about Alexander Dorner, director of the Landesmuseum Hannover and El Lissitzky, an avant-garde Soviet artist, who worked together to construct a special room for exhibiting modern art, known as the “Cabinet of the Abstracts".

It is also a story about a young director of the modern museum on another continent who reinvented modern art by abandoning the notion of "National Schools" and introducing instead "International Movements" as basic principle for both the museum and the history of modern art that became widely accepted and remained until today.

Previously Alfred Barr gave this lecture at The James Gallery at CUNY Graduate Center in New York (2011), Le Plateau in Paris (2012) and Ashkal Alwan in Beirut (2014).

The lecture by Alfred Barr takes place within the frame of the project-seminar “Dada Soulève Tout” of the Master Theater, Zurich University of the Arts in cooperation with the Cabaret Voltaire.

We are happy to invite you to attend the lecture by Alfred Barr.
