Vernissage mit Apero der beiden neuesten Publikationen des ICS: ARTISTS-IN-LABS: NETWORKING IN THE MARGINS & TRANSDISCOURSE 1: MEDIATED ENVIRONMENTS

Vernissage

Haus Ausstellungsstrasse 60 in Zürich, SQ 508 Panorama

ARTISTS-IN-LABS: NETWORKING IN THE MARGINS is the second volume that blurs the boundaries between art and science research. Embodied within the margins of both disciplines lies a responsible attitude, which values citizen science, fantasy, fact, unexpected results and immersive education. This book presents case studies from 2007 to 2009 by 12 artists from the disciplines of sculpture, installation, performance and sound, in collaboration with scientists from the fields of physics, computer technologies, environmental ecology, neuroscience and psychology. While artists have become more involved in ethical and social debates about scientific discovery, scientists have been exposed to the processes and contexts of art. Thus, networking tends to expand the borders of the exact sciences and to cause a more robust level of dialogue from the humanities and the arts. These trans-disciplinary potentials are contextualized by 9 prominent authors, who each shed light on the future implications of such interactions for society. (DVD included)

MEDIATED ENVIRONMENTS is the first project in a new book series called Transdiscourse, from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). This series examines the concept that we may need to re-view our future from a transdisciplinary perspective. Currently we 'see' our world through this very conditioned and constructed representation from mainstream media and our bodies, environments and urban constructions are also 'mediated' or shifted by these translations and interpretations of social reality. Mediated Environments compares and cross-correlates viewpoints from different disciplines (including environmental science, architecture, art and literature) by sharing the portals of media criticism, sustainability and urban design.
