Thokozani Kapiri holds a position as a lecturer at the University of Malawi, within the School of Arts, Communication C Design, serving in two departments. Within the Communication Studies department, he teaches courses such as Communication skills, Integrated academic writing, Professional communication skills, Communication for Health, and Theatre for Development Communication. In the Department of Drama and Theatre Studies, his teaching portfolio includes courses such as Dramatic Play Production, Theory and Practice of Drama, Media Criticism: Language, Culture and Ideology; Participatory Rural Community Appraisal; Acting and Directing for Stage, Radio, Film, and Television. In addition to his academic pursuits, Thokozani has been working as a social art for behavior change (SABC) communication specialist since 2014 with Migrant Arts, an international nongovernmental organization (INGO) headquartered in Switzerland, with a branch in Malawi. His primary responsibilities involve developing and implementing creative communication programs for advocacy and awareness. These initiatives encompass the production of various TV and radio drama series, the creation of interactive message-oriented manuals, and the facilitation of participatory community mobilization methodologies. Over the years, Thokozani has designed and published participatory communication manuals and articles within the realms of arts, communication, and development. His most recent publication, a field manual, was in 2020 for a project implemented by Co-water-Sogema entitled, “The INPATH-SABC Interactive Communication Field Manual: For Community Drama Groups Conducting Interventions in Communities to Improve Maternal, New-Born and Child Health in Malawi.” Thokozani holds a Master of Arts in Theatre (with a minor in Film) Directing, conferred in 2018 from Zurich University of the Arts, Switzerland. Additionally, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts honors degree in Drama in 2009 from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. His initial Bachelor of Arts degree entailed a double major in English Literature (with a minor in English language) and Drama, obtained from the University of Malawi, where he graduated in 2005. He is fluent in English, German, Chichewa, Chitumbuka, and Chisena.
