    DIPLOMA PROJECT / THESIS
    - Project title: CONTRA/ST – or everything between
    - Description: Two worlds, two perspectives, two directions drift apart – opposing, unfamiliar, and contradictory. Yet within the space between them, a poetic dialogue emerges. CONTRA/ST – or everything between explores how contrasts not only divide, but also generate tension, energy, and transformation.
The work is a journey through extremes – and a search for the in-between: a living, shifting space where something new can emerge. It invites an exploration of opposites in movement and sound, from chaos to order, silence to noise, light to darkness – revealing them not as fixed states, but as dynamic, vibrating fields of experience.
Against the backdrop of a world shaped by conflict, ideology, and fear, the piece reflects on what it means to exist between extremes. The in-between is not neutral, but a charged terrain where contrast creates movement, friction, relationships, and transformation.
Drawing on everyday situations and current global realities, the work unfolds through fragments of conflict and silence, confrontation and intimacy, control and loss of control, as well as collective dynamics and individual responses. Fleeting moments – at times fragmented and seemingly unrelated – begin to connect through visible contrasts, revealing a shared space of tension, negotiation, and coexistence.

    Q&A WITH CHRISTINA SZEGEDI
What memory will you take with you from your time at ZHdK?
    - What I value most from my time at ZHdK are the connections I made – especially with my classmates, who became an important part of my journey. I’m also deeply grateful for the chance to learn from such inspiring choreographers, artists and mentors through the seminars. After many years freelancing in the dance scene, it meant a lot to step back into a kind of creative bubble, to give myself the time and space to go deeper and focus on my art.

Which work or choreographer particularly inspires you, and why?
    - I can’t point to one specific choreographer who inspires me most. I’m drawn to artists who transform the everyday into something subtle and thoughtful – something that can only truly be expressed through dance, and that goes beyond just beautiful movement. There’s something powerful in seeing familiar situations reshaped into a new form, that’s what inspires me most.
