Q&A WITH XENIA BAILLY
What does dance mean to you?
- I started dancing during a difficult period in my family life. For me it was a moment of my week where I could not think about my outside problems anymore. A moment of freedom. Little by little I understood what dancing did to me. From getting away and from finding my true self. When I dance I can express and feel words that I can’t say out loud. I believe dance saved my life in a way that none other outside help did. That is why I continue and love doing this art form
What memory will you take with you from your time at ZHdK?
- My class year was a really strong group. Dancing wise, but what made us even stronger is the way we cared for each other. We can think dancing is a competitive art, and other people could do anything for themselves. They were no of that. We were always there for each other. So I believe my greatest memory was the time I spent with my classmates dancing but also outside of the school. I truly made a second family in Zurich that I will cherish for my whole life
Which work or choreographer particularly inspires you, and why?
- I really love neoclassical. I believe it really pushes the body to go to extreme and discover new ways of moving with the classical base we learn and do everyday. William Forsythe is one of my favourite choregrapher Along side David Dawson. I got the chance This year to work on “secound details” by William Forsythe. It was a real dream come true.
