BIOGRAPHY
Noémie Balzarini grew up in Zurich, where she completed her school education. Dance then brought her to Italy and Geneva, before bringing her back to Zurich to pursue her studies in Contemporary Dance at the ZHdK. She is currently completing her Bachelor's degree with an internship at the Tanz Theater Pforzheim.

DIPLOMA PROJECT / THESIS
- Project title: Once Upon A Dream
- Description: The dance film moves between dream, memory and fantasy, between the real and the imagined. It draws on the childlike ability to lose oneself completely in fantasy, without doubt, without judgment. Nostalgia, lightness and a sense of letting go come together: a look back at a time when anything seemed possible and immersing oneself in other worlds felt effortless. The film invites you to rediscover this state, to set aside the weight of everyday life and surrender to the freedom of experience and imagination.

Q&A WITH NOÉMIE BALZARINI
What does dance mean to you?
- Dance is for me the most natural way to create and experience art. I perceive the world through my body and my senses, and through movement I can bring my inner world to the outside. Because we as humans understand body language intuitively, movement has the power to touch us in an immediate and profound way.
What memory will you take with you from your time at ZHdK?
- The highlight of my studies, or rather a significant realization, was that no one can create art alone. To discover yourself as an artist, you need to be open to other people and experiencing the world, accept help and exchange ideas. I am grateful to have shared this experience with a wonderful group of people who inspired and supported me.
Which work or choreographer particularly inspires you, and why?
- “Can You Measure the Distance Between You and Me" by Kammy Lau Yin Kwan. I admire how Kammy explores the theme of human distance in this piece and expands it to interpersonal relationships. Her work is accessible to the audience and makes complex emotions relatable.
