Q&A WITH EVA BUGAKOVA
What does dance mean to you?
- I have always loved music and dance since I was little, and over time it has become a fundamental part of who I am. Dance allows me to express emotions and ideas in a way that words cannot. When I dance, I feel fully present and connected to both the music and my body. It challenges me physically and mentally, while also giving me a sense of freedom and creativity. Through dance, I've learned discipline, resilience, and how to communicate with an audience in a meaningful way.
What memory will you take with you from your time at ZHdK?
- One of the biggest highlights for me was working with Ballet Zürich for “Giselle”. Being part of such a professional production was an incredibly valuable experience, and it gave me insight into the discipline and artistry required at a high level. I especially appreciated the opportunity to rehearse and perform alongside experienced dancers, which pushed me to grow and refine my skills. I will take away not only artistic development, but also the inspiration and motivation I gained from being part of that environment as well as the connections and memories made through the process.
Which work or choreographer particularly inspires you, and why?
- Working with choreography by William Forsythe inspired me a lot, as I discovered new ways of moving and improvising, learning to be more fluid and open in my expression. At first, it felt challenging, but over time I became more comfortable and started to really enjoy the process. I was also inspired by dancing works by George Balanchine, which pushed my musicality, precision, and speed. These experiences helped me grow both technically and artistically, and expanded my understanding of different styles.
