DIPLOMA PROJECT
In the Armenian language there is the concept of „Dham» which could be described as „endless sound«. The musicians play wind instruments without interruption, they breathe through the nose: «... from the word we go to the color, and from there to the sound. And the sound leads to silence, the great cosmic silence.» — Avet Terterian, composer This piece started with white noise. White noise has two aspects for me. The first stands for the society of information, or the overload of information. Today a person in Zurich is confronted with 6000 informations a day. News, advertising, instructions, commands, manifestos, laws, bills, letters, preaches, speeches, opinions and so on. With white noise I want to ask how much information do we need to survive? Which information is useless? Which is important? The second aspect is to think white noise as an escape room from the overdose of information. White noise also means silence to me. It is the sound of the rain, the rusting of the grass, the sound of the sea. White is the color that is made of all colors of the spectrum. It is, so to say, where everything comes together.
