Biografie
Deborah Macauley is a young Afro-Austrian performer, writer and theatre pedagogue in training.
She is based in Zürich/Vorarlberg and has mostly worked in Austria and Swiss. She has co-written a musical play for the Bochabela String Orchestra, a short audio drama “Menschenroboter” for ORF, had online articles published in the magazine “fresh-Black Austrian Lifestyle” and attributed some of her texts for the exhibition “Ganz nah” at the state museum of Bregenz. In 2016 she was able to take part in an exhibition project of Tal Adler “Black Austria - The Children of Afroamerican GIs” and 2018 she was invited to the fourth workshop of “Literatur im Schwärzler”, where she could exchange ideas and connect with established writers like Michael Köhlmeier, Verena Rossbacher, Hans Platzgumer, etc.
In her internship at the Schauspielhaus Zürich 2019/2020 she had the opportunity to co-assist in Wu Tsang’s and Trajal Harell’s productions at the theatre and took part in the film “The Show Is Over” and “Composition 4”. She participated in Sibylle Bergs first three saloon nights of “Alles Meins” and was able to assist in different departments like theatre pedagogy, dramaturgy, audience development, etc. At the Schauspielhaus Zürich she also organized Open Mics every first Saturdays in the month with the other four interns of the house.
Her focus is to make BPOCs more visible in daily life and create connecting points between different people.
