The Department of Cultural Analysis (DKV) is one of five departments at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Its work intersects on various levels with that of the University’s other departments (music, performing arts, design, and art). The DKV develops new formats and structures (for instance, ZHdK’s outreach centre in Hong Kong) or defines new themes and issues for inclusion on the University’s agenda (e.g. Cultural Entrepreneurship).
DKV teaching and research explore cultural theory, cultural terms and concepts, and the corresponding methodological knowledge. Work in these areas focuses on analytical skills and the accompanying transfer- and practical skills, that is, the dissemination of contents and action strategies suited to the needs of specific target groups. The most widely known DKV unit is Zurich’s Museum of Design. It is Switzerland’s largest museum and one of Europe’s leading museums for applied art. Its collections enjoy worldwide acclaim.
