The project's pragmatic foundations involve the exploration of the experiences of Ukrainian students who have enrolled in European art universities following the onset of the war and are currently residing as refugees. Its primary objectives include documenting and comprehending the challenges, advantages, and the process of integration in diverse countries and universities. The overarching goal is to enhance awareness regarding the experiences of these students and encourage Western audiences to perceive the situation from various perspectives, utilizing a creative lens.
The project's timeline commenced in May 2023, with completion expected by the beginning of the next year. It unfolds during ongoing journeys across Europe, encompassing interviews conducted in various settings, including personal living spaces and ateliers.
This endeavor facilitates a process of discovery by enabling filmmakers to engage with art students, exchange experiences, and glean insights into their daily lives. The inquiries revolve around understanding the challenges and advantages of studying abroad, delving into the integration experiences of these students, and exploring broader cultural disparities and interactions with the societies of their host countries.
This initiative provides a platform for these students to share their stories and challenges, with the aim of increasing visibility and understanding within the Ukrainian community and encouraging Western audiences to perceive the situation from diverse angles. Additionally, it addresses questions regarding the acceptance of third-country white migrant youth across different parts of Europe. Most importantly, the director, also of Ukrainian origin, has undergone similar experiences as the people interviewed, which undoubtedly helps in better relating to and understanding the stories of these students.
