»Es ist eben durchaus möglich, (...) eine Feldforschung zu betreiben und dabei überhaupt nichts zu lernen. Ich glaube daher, dass die Feldforschung selbst noch gar nichts garantiert und auch keine magischen Qualitäten besitzt. Die Feldforschung sollte mehr sein als eine bloße Technik, und sie sollte zu einer existentiellen Praxis werden (...). Ist die Feldforschung nicht vom Denken begleitet und das heißt vom Befragen und das heißt vom Problematisieren und das heißt vom Staunen, dann macht es keinen Sinn, irgendwohin zu gehen und dort (...) entweder zu frieren oder zu schwitzen.« P.
