Studios and workshops

Students at ZHdK can use state-of-the-art and professionally equipped studios and workshops. The nine specialist workshops – woodwork, synthetic materials, model-making, ceramics, metalwork, paper, screenprint, manual printing and textiles – are supported by workshop supervisors with technical and teaching experience. They are on hand for any questions on equipment, materials or technical processes which students or teaching staff may have. There is a “Low Level” area in the workshops where minor tasks can be carried out using more simple tools and equipment. A laser cutter and 3D printer are also available to students in the Low level workshop. For photographic work, the so-called Fotocluster, with digital workshop, three studios and a small laboratory, is the perfect place to go.

Depending on the student's degree programme, studio work can be performed in class groups as part of a study module, or one can work individually on a free project. Anyone who has attended an introductory course (Z-Tech-Kurs) may use the workshops unsupervised. Responsibility for the technical infrastructure lies with the ZHdK Technical and Event Services (TES).
