How do you turn a mere neighbourhood into a lively community? To what extent can the shaping of the living environment be motivated by the example of self-organised participation in the neighbourhood? The author explores this question in the face of social trends such as anonymisation, segregation, pluralisation of lifestyles and a lack of resources and skills using the example of her own neighbourhood in the Niggital district of Rüti. She bases her interventions on three stages of participatory design: a tavolata represents the "for approach", the collaborative development and implementation of ideas for neighbourhood design with interested parties represents the "with" and the discussion of framework conditions with actors from the administration represents the "through". As a result, the author presents a practical guide with impulses for action for potential initiators in neighbourhoods.
