This paper addresses the change that many performance-oriented individuals over the age of 50 experience: a phase in which the search for meaning and new priorities come to the fore. How can we establish a culture in which older performance-oriented individuals continue to be recognized as an essential resource? What do these individuals need in order to continue making a valuable contribution to the world of work and society with their experience and “crystallized intelligence”? Drawing on her own experience as a former passionate career woman in middle management, the author uses a number of design methods and identifies the dimensions of ‘individual’ and “company” as key levers for bringing about effective change. Her concrete recommendations for action make it possible to shape this transition into older age as an upgrade and to promote a culture of change.
