Synopsis: Bigna, 29, is a tsunami researcher about to start a new job in Chile. She is more interested in numbers than in people. She finds sexual satisfaction in anonymous role-playing with strangers. Her rule is: once and never again. When she meets FRANK, 33, something inside her breaks, but she still gets rid of him. Control means everything to Bigna.
Six months later - Bigna and Frank have a passionate affair, and just before Bigna leaves, they confess their love for each other. Bigna decides to stay. Driven by their boundless passion, the two gradually break away from each other. After a night in which they hurt each other, Bigna flees headlong to Chile, where she marries an older colleague. Frank stays behind alone, trying to get a grip on his pain. Two and a half years later, separated from each other, they have tried to start over, but their mutual dependence haunts them every day. And then they meet again. Is it possible to love and hate each other at the same time?
My Function:
Sound Design
Description:
Feature-length film, fiction, 111 min.
For me, sound design is a game with associations and phantasms. It is a matter of finding a way to deal with intuitive inspirations and calculated interventions. Also during the work on "99 Moons", the second feature film I was allowed to work on as a leading sound designer, these approaches merged fluently. The strong subject matter resonated with me and I wanted to give it expression in sound.
Nonetheless, to gain clarity about one's own work requires a detached view. The thesis that accompanies this movie served as a tool for me to thoroughly analyse my work and to provide insight into my working methods.
