Dance research on stage – ROOTS

Methods / objectives:
The project «Tradition – Dance Theatre Performance» (working title) project was based on stage research and a choreographic part. In the practical part, the aim was to create a performance of contemporary dance / theatre movement.
The goal was to transfer the research results into the training programme of the ZHdK as well as to connect it to the performing arts practice in Switzerland by involving professional dancers.

Quintessence
The main result of my research is a dance performance entitled «ROOTS» (working title: «Tradition»). The performance is based on the research material collected during my field studies. As a choreographer, it was important for me to become familiar with the tradition of Swiss customs through participation.
The full evening of contemporary dance / theatre movement performance was inspired by Swiss and Polish folk music and customs. It interprets traditional folk music and then transfers the core impulses of cultural values into contemporary dance theatre. The piece is oriented towards a manifestation of tradition: folk music and carnival’s rituals.

Dossier commission amount as discussed: CHF 5000
