The Bulgarian forest of Strandzha is at the centre of a specially written play based on an expedition which took place in February 2017 and which became a voyage into "the heart of darkness", full of contradictions. Through separate scenes depicting figures who move around a closed-off zone – including a border guard, a young gypsy, nationalists and others – the individual strands of the story are linked together to give a dystopian world picture of Europe today at it outermost borders.
