In her master's thesis «Lots of Straw» Valerie Keusch explores the possibilities of critical art and cultural mediation by developing and implementing a critical mediation format for the Swiss Straw Museum. Keusch examines how such a format can illuminate not only the artisanal aspects, but also the social and historical realities of the hat weaving industry and integrate them into the existing narrative provided by the museum. Based on Carmen Mörsch’s five approaches to art education and the «Zehn Thesen zur Gegenwärtigen Kunstvermittlung» by Gila Kolb and Konstanze Schütz, Keusch tests critical approaches to knowledge transfer in order to question established power structures and perspectives.
