In the wall installation called Colour-Light Pattern 272 powder coated plates with different shiny and textured surfaces – from dull matt to high gloss – are arranged in the following four colour fields (ill. right):
blue – yellow – green – red
Within the colour groups, the individual colours vary in terms of hue, saturation and brightness. Individual achromatic colours – white, black or grey – are also added.
Two RGB LED lamps have been programmed in such a way as to shine different coloured lights on the plates in the following series:
white – cyan – red – green – blue
The installation shows how colour perception changes under the influence of light. Subtractive light combinations are created that cause colour hue shifts, changes in brightness or saturation and greying.
If we look closely at the different surface colours we notice that the different surface properties of a colour, such as gloss or texture, also influence colour perception.
