The project ‘Beyond the Text’ follows a group of dedicated young Iranian theatre makers who have come together as an independent ensemble and regularly improvise together. Committed to improvisation and artistic freedom, they have found a loyal following. Together, they embark on a ten-day journey to a city outside Tehran to reach new audiences. During this time, they live, rehearse and improvise together – until the boundaries between play and reality become increasingly blurred.
During a one-week workshop, the project will connect the group with drama students from Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), where both groups will exchange improvisation techniques and explore the role of art in different social contexts. The resulting documentary film focuses on intercultural collaboration, artistic freedom and the significance of art under different social conditions.
