The number of dementia cases in Switzerland is expected to double over the next 25 years. This will place considerable demands on those affected, their relatives, caregivers, and the healthcare system. The author of this paper examines what a cultural shift toward a dementia-friendly society might look like, in which those affected and their relatives are visible, actively supported, and socially integrated. Around Röschibachplatz in Zurich, she is developing and testing interventions that combine systemic, socially oriented, innovative, and participatory approaches and activate civil society participation. Local actors play a central role in building sustainable structures and establishing a common language in the neighborhood. The goal is to create an environment that strengthens the independence and social participation of people with dementia and promotes their active involvement. In the long term, the aim is to create a caring community that takes responsibility, provides solidarity, and practices inclusion in everyday life.
