The Department of Cultural Analysis focused on transcultural communication as part of the “Arts for Change” project. Three projects have contributed to understanding transculturality @home and abroad within the scope of the promotion of “Arts for Change”.
“The Transformative Power of Cities: Art and Design in the Context of Urban Change Processes” is a project that examines questions of “urban identity”, which are discussed against a global background and planetary urbanization processes, which are traced in local contexts and made fruitful for international discussion. The view of urban transformation processes is at the same time a self-reflexive view, if it is possible to compare one’s own environment concretely and locally with other global transformation areas. Comparison with other cities sharpens one’s view of oneself, raises awareness of a differentiated perspective and questions the attributions of one’s own culture with regard to aesthetic perspectives or attitudes. Be it on the level of aesthetic, urban-planning, architectural, artistic, historical, cultural or economic aspects, be it on the level of thought and action. The results of the projects are presented in this comprehensive report.
